Wow, I was taken aback when i saw that the blog was updated! -grin-
Attachment at a hospital must be fun! I'm so looking forward to mine. Have been dealing with paediatrics for my past few placements. I'm aiming to have a placement in a hospital next semester for my block placement.
Meanwhile take care guys! =)

Ha, i was about to blog on my own blog when i discover the blog has been updated! Ha.
Anyway, my view on this responsibility of doctor is as follows:
1) The very reason why i didnt choose to be a doctor is this: I do not like to deal with things bordering on life and death itself. To me, i am the sort of people who place responsibilty at the top of my list. Even if i save 1000 lives, but there is one life i can save which i failed to, i will blame myself. It doesnt matter how many life i saved, to me, it cannot make up for one which i failed to save.
To me, to be a doctor, u cannot be so responsible. I mean not irresponsible, but u must be able to absolve yourself of mistakes. And that is so not me. Even if it is not my fault, i will also tink of how i might be responsible. And that is bad. So bad for a doctor to be like dat. In a way, i feel dcotor have to be sort of numb against issues of life and death, which I unfortunately cant.
2) I feel uncomfortable at the trade of doctor itself --> to bring something as noble as life itself down to a filthy level of money is well, degrading. I am not saying doctors all work for the sake of money, but unfortunately such cases are abundant. I mean to charge for their services and time to cover thier running expenses and living expenses is ok, but to earn for selling medicine as well? I tink it is a bit ridiculous--> a doctor can well survive just on consultation fees.
3) If you ask me which doctors i admire the most, they have to be surgeons. Cos they are plying a trade involving skill. GPs? Yeah, they tackle some tough cases some times, but most of the time? Earn from selling medicine from chronic illnesses like high blood pressure, selling medicine like cough syrup and panadol, like that is more of being a trader then curing illnesses. Sometimes still cock up give wrong medicine. A noble trader? Hmm.
4) I apologise for sounding quite anti-doctor ( too amny budding doctor here), but too bad, there are too many rotten eggs out there (even if they are the minority, pple still rem them more den the gd ones, ya?), and those i experienced are not good at all.
Peace, i go blog my own blog first.

wah! i just checked my dashboard and was shocked to see a new post.. haha
to those who went ktv that day, it really was a good time catching up with u guys! CSQ, ZW, ZY, KW and YX.. brings back some memories of JC life.. to tell u honestly, those memories are fast fading. i have a very bad memory about school stuff, JC, sec sch, pri sch all included.. maybe it's all the medicine knowledge competing with space for these memories ha.. so gotta go for these outings more often so as to recap some of these memories!
hmm regarding a doctor's responsibility for a patient's life.. well in med sch, we were taught to first, do no harm! i think in future, when we become doctors, the zeal to do a lot for patients, more than what is necessary will always be there.. then there might be the temptation to challenge ourselves, rather than put patients' interests first. so i think we must be very wary of our own motives.
but frankly speaking, unless we are surgeons or working in the emergency department, circumstances where patients' lives are at stake are few and far between.. more often than not, we will be doing run-of-the-mill stuff and seeing normal and non life-threatening cases. and really, doctors are not as great as u think they are.. there are many conditions which are uncurable.. there are other conditions which follow a chronic course so the aim is not at achieving cure but at controlling the disease progress and preventing complications.. then there are tumours which shrink and go into remission for no reason.. and there are those that continue to grow and spread despite radical and aggressive treatment..
of cos, advancements in medicine have offered cures for diseases that were once uncurable.. life has been improved both in terms of quantity (in years) and quality (questionable).. but at the end of the day, we must die of something right? haha..

Well, nobody posted for almost one year already. I am just wondering hows everyone doing now.
Saw soon wee at ttsh a few days ago. I am also at ttsh now doing a 6 wk attachment. Anyway being at the hospital is an eye opener for me, a realisation of how heavy the responsibilities of a doc are. How does it feel like to be directly responsible for a patient's life? Anyone wants to share their thoughts?
